# X Subscription Tiers and Pricing: Should SuperGrok Users Switch?

On October 12, 2026, xAI announced X Subscription: one plan that combines Grok, Cursor's coding agents, and X membership perks, in five tiers (Free, Plus, Premium, Super, Ultra). Existing SuperGrok, Cursor, or X Premium subscribers are not changed automatically. You can keep your old plan, or switch in billing settings and get a prorated refund. Whether switching is worth it depends on whether your chat and coding usage combined will exceed what you have today.

Everything below comes from [the official xAI announcement](https://x.ai/news/x-subscription) and reflects the situation as of October 2026. xAI says new customers can subscribe starting October 12, with rollout to users worldwide over the following days, so whether you see the option yet is best checked on your billing settings page.

## What are the X Subscription tiers and prices?

| Tier | Monthly price | Usage (relative to Plus) | Official description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited | Daily Grok allowance, small amount of Cursor coding-agent usage |
| Plus | $8 | Baseline | More Grok and Cursor usage, plus a verification badge, creator tools, and fewer ads |
| Premium | $30 | 4x | Covers the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+; xAI says the three together previously cost $90/month |
| Super | $100 | 15x | Everything in Premium |
| Ultra | $200 | 50x | Everything in Premium |

The announcement does not give absolute usage numbers for any tier, only multiples relative to Plus. The only way to learn what a tier actually gives you is to check your billing page or observe it in use.

## How does the shared usage pool work?

On paid tiers, Grok model usage is one shared pool covering the Grok app, the Grok tab inside X, and Cursor. xAI also says that each tier's Grok-model coding usage is at least 2x that of the equivalent Cursor plan, and that every new tier offers more usage per dollar than the plan it replaces.

In practice, the change is this: chat and coding used to have separate allowances, and now they draw from the same one. If you run agents in Cursor heavily, you may burn through allowance you would otherwise have kept for chat.

On Premium and above, you can still use third-party models inside Cursor. Usage beyond your plan is billed at API list prices through top-ups. The announcement does not state the top-up prices, so check the official pages.

Team plans are priced per seat. Per-seat prices for Premium, Super, and Ultra match the individual plans. xAI says coding usage is 3x that of the old Cursor Teams, and the plans include SSO, admin controls, and consolidated billing.

## Will existing SuperGrok subscribers be switched automatically?

No. As xAI describes it, current subscribers can keep their existing plan, price, and features. A switch option will appear in billing settings along with a limited-time offer, and after you switch, your old plan is refunded on a prorated basis. The announcement does not spell out the terms of the limited-time offer.

## How do you decide before switching?

Follow these four steps. You don't need to change any settings. You only need your billing records and usage history.

1. Write down what you actually pay each month. For example, if you pay for SuperGrok, Cursor Pro, and X Premium+, add the three up and compare the total with the $30 Premium tier. xAI's comparison baseline is $90/month, but your real bill may differ, so go by your own bill.
2. Estimate your coding usage. If you run cloud agents in Cursor every day, don't rush off your old plan. On the new plans, coding draws from the same pool as chat.
3. Check whether you rely on third-party models in Cursor. xAI only says that Premium and above can use them in Cursor. The announcement doesn't say whether Plus and Free can, so check the official pages.
4. Wait until the option appears, then look at the limited-time offer and the refund amount. The refund is prorated, so read the number shown on the page before you confirm.

## After switching, how do you tell if your usage allowance changed?

The most likely failure with a shared pool is allowance that suddenly runs out or gets reset. These pages let you cross-check:

- [Is Grok down?](/en/down/grok) and [Is Cursor down?](/en/down/cursor) combine official status pages, API probes, and user reports. They include report types such as rate limiting and "usage reset", so you can see whether you are the only one affected.
- [Vendor changes](/en/changes) monitors news and pricing pages from xAI and other vendors and logs additions and deletions line by line. If xAI later clarifies things the announcement left vague, such as plan multiples or top-up prices, you will see the change there.

To build a habit of tracking price changes, see [How to find out the moment an LLM API price changes](/en/blog/track-llm-price-and-model-changes).

## How does this compare with other coding subscriptions?

Vendors define usage limits differently, so you can't compare prices directly. If you also use other coding tools, start by reading how each one states its limits:

- [How Codex usage limits work: the 5-hour and weekly limits on Plus, Pro, and Business](/en/blog/codex-plans-usage-limits-explained)
- [Claude Max 5x vs 20x: what's the difference?](/en/blog/claude-max-plan-5x-20x-claude-code)
- [Codex usage limit reset timeline: two publicly sourced resets and how to track them](/en/blog/codex-usage-limit-reset-timeline)

Those articles cover each product's own accounting. Pay attention to when they were written, because plan rules change quickly.

## Summary

The core change in X Subscription is that Grok chat, Grok coding, and Cursor now share one usage pool. If you only use chat, the difference between Plus and Premium is mainly the multiplier. If you code heavily, first estimate whether the shared pool is big enough. Old plans are not being forcibly replaced, so you don't need to decide on day one. Wait until the switch option, the limited-time offer, and the refund amount are visible, then run the numbers again.
